To be a good Leader !!!

We recently had our union inauguration and one of the speakers was Ms. Sheetal Soni, Country Cha n nel Manage r, IBM India, Pune. The first thing she did was to probe this question. What's the difference between a leader and a manager? A leader engages with the team and works with them whereas a manager just delegates tasks. A leader has credibility and accountability as well as the capacity to translate vision into reality. Leadership is a skill as it involves taking responsibility over the team's success or failure unlike that of a manager who would bask in the limelight incase of success but would happily play the blame gameincase of failure.

This makes a person feel safe with a leader leaving them to volunteer to work under a leader rather than being frustrated owing to the sense of freedom they experience when working under a leader. Leaders always make it system dependent rather than leader dependent by educating the members and also providing equal opportunities to everyone.

 




She concluded by saying that women are naturally endowed with a great deal of patience and this enables them to be better leaders. She also added that leadership comes with a lot of challenges but the biggest takeaway is that we learn effective crisis management.

She galvanized each and every pixie present there to be confident, honest, sanguine and strive to be a leader down the road.

Listening to her speech made me remember the words of Beyonce and Angela Davis.

"Power is not given to you. You have to take it"  while Angela Davis boldly said "I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept"

As someone who is foreigner and has spent most of her life in different countries, I can assure you, the way IV was done here could never be done the same anywhere else.
