When Mahabali visits...Its Onam then !!!

Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women celebrated the harvest festival of Onam with grand fervour on 21st August, 2023. Onam is a grand festival for Keralites across the world and is the official festival of Kerala. It is significant in the city of Coimbatore due to its close proximity to Kerala and a high population of Malayalis in the city. The high festive spirit of the students of the college could be witnessed as students attended in the traditional Kasavu Saree. This saree is a symbol of Kerala’s tradition and culture and is characterised by the gold (zari) thread used in the border of the saree which is otherwise has a plain white or off white body. One can feel like a quintessential Malayali as they drape the saree. The college was decorated with Pookkalams or “Flower Rangolis” at different places, all created by the enthusiastic students.   Love for handloom fabrics is here!   SRCW Celebrates National Handloom Day to honour the weaving tradition In a dazzling display of culture and craftsmanship, our college came alive on National Handloom Day as we celebrated the artistry and heritage of handwoven fabrics on August 7 th 2023. The event served as a heart-warming tribute to India's rich textile legacy, bringing together students, faculty, and local artisans. As a feather in the crown, a fashion walk was carried on by the beauties of our college, expressing their love for the roots of our country. A weavers boutique was organised on the rooftop of our college in accordance with this occasion. In the store, the students got the opportunity to explore a wide range of varied textures in handloom sarees. In addition to this, the students were elated to find the tradition coming home and showed immense interest in the purchase of traditional saree.
